NTBG has published Common Mosses of the Hawaiian Islands written by Amanda Vernon and Tim Flynn, illustrated by Jacob Bettencourt, with valuable input and assistance from bryologists at the California Academy of Sciences, Missouri Botanical Garden, Bishop Museum, and NTBG staff.

Common Mosses of the Hawaiian Islands is a concise 100-page pocket guide introducing readers to Hawai‘i’s common mosses. Covering 40 species and species groups, it is designed for both beginners and those with some familiarity with mosses. The guide combines species descriptions, habitat notes, and detailed photography to assist in identification. It offers an accessible introduction to bryology, featuring illustrations of moss morphology and a glossary.
