Join The Kampong in welcoming Nambu Hakuun III, a master Inami woodcarver as he shares one of Japan’s most celebated traditions on his U.S. tour. A talk will be followed by a demonstration of the skill.
Inami woodcarving is one of Japan’s most renowned traditional crafts, originating in the town of Inami in Nanto City, Toyama Prefecture.
In this tradition, the carving is created from a single block of wood – artisans carve away wood continuously to reveal three dimensional images in thin wooden panels.
