Limahuli Garden and Preserve is a puʻuhonua, a place of refuge, where Indigenous traditions and flourishing relationships continue today. Here on the North Shore of Kauaʻi, we mālama ʻāina—care for the land—as our ancestors did before us. Visit and step into our story of stewardship.
Online reservations are strongly encouraged to ensure parking (if you are driving). Guided tours require advanced reservations.
Visitors are encouraged to use North Shore Shuttle service. Reservations for self-guided tours are NOT required for visitors arriving by shuttle, and we offer a special discount for North Shore Shuttle users. Please show your shuttle pass and check in at the Visitor Center as a walk-in during the opening hours before the last check-in time.

Limahuli Garden is open Tuesday through Saturday, 8:30 am – 4 pm. Last check-in is 2:15 pm when we close the entrance gate.
The loop trail is 3/4 miles (1.2 km) long and goes up 200 ft (60 m) in elevation with many steps.
For at least 1,500 years the Limahuli Valley has been a Hawaiian place. Today, Limahuli is one of of the last easily-accessible valleys with intact archaeological complexes, native forest, pristine stream, and the presence of the descendants of the valley’s original inhabitants caring for it.
