Our Work
As a part of NTBG’s Science and Conservation department, the Breadfruit Institute is using the knowledge acquired by more than 30 years of conservation and collaborative research of breadfruit to steward the diversity of this underutilized crop and its wild relatives. In Oceania, numerous traditional varieties exist and NTBG’s germplasm, while extensive, represents just a fraction of the breadfruit diversity in the Pacific.
The institute is dedicated to engaging our global community and advocating for breadfruit because it has the potential to contribute to food security and improve ecological resilience throughout the tropics -where the effects of climate change on vulnerable communities is the greatest.
