Two Field Courses Offered Summer 2012
Special Announcement, 01/18/2012
NTBG has announced two field schools which will be held on Kaua‘i this summer. These are both college-credit offerings.
For the fifth year, the Archaeological Field School will be held in collaboration with the Anthropology Department of the University of Hawai‘i-Mānoa. Dates in 2012 for this integrated archaeological and paleoecological session are July 5-August 4.
A new four-week offering in June/July this year is the Geospatial Research and Mapping (GRAM) Field Program, in collaboration with California State University at Long Beach (CSULB). This is a National Science Foundation-funded Research Experiences for Undergraduates program. The schedule is broken down between in-classroom/laboratory at CSULB and two weeks at NTBG’s Kaua‘i gardens, preserves, and off-campus restoration projects. It includes the training of students in remote sensing, the use of Unmanned Aircraft Systems, and other kinds of mapping and imaging technologies.
