Garden Announces Mother's Day Open House on South Shore
Press Release, 05/01/2012
Mother’s Day Open House
at the NTBG’s Allerton Garden
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Kalāheo, Kaua‘i (May 1, 2012) – Once again the National Tropical Botanical Garden (NTBG) is offering a free Mother’s Day Open House in the Allerton Garden on Sunday, May 13. This family event provides a special opportunity for Kaua‘i residents to explore a garden National Geographic Traveler magazine named as one of “50 Places of a Lifetime”.
All of Kaua‘i is invited to enjoy a day in the garden with family and friends at NTBG’s southshore locations. Tourists travel thousands of miles from around the world to see this beautiful property with its extensive plant collections, shady pathways, and iconic tropical trees. Why not visit with your ‘ohana and enjoy that same beauty and serenity on Mom’s special day?
The first tram will depart from the Southshore Visitors Center beginning at 9:30 a.m. with trams regularly transporting garden visitors into the valley on a first-come, first-served basis, accepting the last person standing in line at 1 p.m. Trams will return from the garden to the Visitors Center until the last tram out of the Lāwa‘i Valley at 3 p.m. Enjoy Po‘ipū’s stunning scenery and a breathtaking view of Allerton Garden from a former sugar cane train railbed. Once down in the valley, stroll through the garden with its artistic waterways, fountains, pools, and outdoor ‘rooms’.
Explore this masterpiece of landscape design and pause for lunch (food and drinks will be available for purchase in the valley). Enjoy shopping for hand-made goods from the Garden’s craft volunteers, a keiki station with face painting, music, bake sale, and a drawing for prizes at the visitors center. Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a reusable bottle water and mosquito repellant. Don’t miss out on this special family event as you help mom make beautiful memories.
NTBG’s Southshore Visitors Center is located at 4425 Lāwa‘i Road in Po‘ipū (across from Spouting Horn). For information, call (808) 742-2433 or visit calendar.ntbg.org.
National Tropical Botanical Garden is a not-for-profit, non-governmental institution with nearly 2,000 acres of gardens and preserves in Hawai‘i and Florida. Its mission is to enrich life through discovery, scientific research, conservation, and education by perpetuating the survival of plants, ecosystems, and cultural knowledge of tropical regions. NTBG is supported primarily through donations and grants.
