Kampong Lecture Series

8 p.m. presentation

As a subtropical city and the southernmost metro area in the U.S., Miami has always lured both visitors and migrants from throughout the Americas. Despite Miami’s seductive appeal, few make the commitment to remain. Today, by many measures, Miami is one of the most transient of all major cities in America. In his new book Miami: Mistress of the Americas Jan Nijman tells the story of this urban transformation, linking Miami’s history and unique geography to the development of the city. Mr. Nijman is the former director of urban studies at the University of Miami.

Lectures are free to Fellows and Members. General public: $10 donation.
