Eight-day Botanical Illustration Workshop

Enroll now in the
Botanical Illustration Workshop
with Alice Tangerini and Wendy Hollender
February 24 - March 6, 2011
at National Tropical Botanical Garden’s Headquarters and Kaua`i Gardens

Study the fundamentals of botanical drawing using the media of graphite pencil, colored pencils and pen and brush with ink. Drawing plants and flowers starts with observation. Under the supervision of Alice Tangerini, Staff Illustrator for the Smithsonian Institution, and Wendy Hollender, Illustrator, Author, and Instructor from The New York Botanical Garden, students will learn about plant structures and their importance through dissection and comparison.

Students will work in graphite, colored pencil, water color pencil, and pen and brush with ink to create detailed botanical drawings and sketchbook pages of flowering plants, fruits and seedpods, working directly from the wide variety of tropical plants growing at NTBG. We will also study botanical illustrations spanning four centuries at the extensive library collection as a way of understanding the tradition and techniques still in use today.

Combination of classroom and garden instruction
Workshop fee: $860 (includes lunch)
Half-Workshop fee: $430
Airfare and lodging extra
